Gerard Kemkers

Gerard Kemkers (Groningen, March 8, 1967) is a former speed skater and former skating coach. He is currently working as a manager in the Performance Center at the football club FC Groningen and  as an advisor of the skating team Team4Gold.

During the 1980s and 1990s Gerard was a successful skater, resulting in a bronze medal on the Olympic winter games in Calgary (1988). After his skating career he went to the Academy of Physical Education and worked for several years as a coach in America. Back in Holland he started working as a skating coach for the ‘KNSB-Kernploeg’ and in 2002 for the TVM skating team, where he achieved  European, World and Olympic success with his skaters Ireen Wust, Sven Kramer and Koen Verweij. Gerard is a coach characterized by his passion and dedication. The setbacks that he faced during his skating career shaped him into what he is today; one of the best coaches in the world. Gerard has his own characteristic vision on talent development, teambuilding and working together. About the Performance Center in Groningen he said: ‘I want to create something that is unique in the Netherlands. Talent will be number one.’
